Two people are sitting in a room, the room is dimly lit and love is in the air. Romantic music is playing. The guy takes the girl's hand and the girl turns her head sideways as if trying to shy away. The guy slowly kisses the hand and the girl closing her eyes does not move a muscle. The guy is all over her and they both slowly move towards the bed.....
All of a sudden everything becomes blur and the scene directly shifts to the next morning when the hero and the heroine are covered up in bed sheets.... This implies that they had sex by the way...
Did I just mention the S word???.........
Other ways of showing the art of making love in bollywood would be...
*Two birds sitting on a branch with their heads together. It looks as if they are making out (if birds do that, I don't really know)
*Two flowers meet head on, again, as if making out (I am sure plants don't do it that way)
*The scene shifts to a fire place or any other prop in the room (don't really know why)
You might be thinking what the.... hey, shhhh!!! you are not allowed to say that but do go on...
What I am trying to say is that in India still at some level we make a huge deal about sex. We are trying really hard to open up but we are not comfortable accepting it. We do it obviously (look at our population) and we like doing it (again look at our population) but we do not want to talk about it and we do not like anyone else talking about it....
Lets get back to the theatre in which this movie was running....
The audience watching, some teenagers eagerly waiting for something to happen get disappointed. The others who came with their families grow red with embarrassment and have a deep desire of getting sucked into their respective seats by some form of gravitational force....
Ok, I have been thinking that this might get a bit controversial so I will put a disclaimer.... These are purely and completely my thoughts and are not meant to offend anyone. I do not want people to sue me and definitely don't want people to kick my a** or boycott me. If you don't like it please take it as lightly as you can. If you think this offends the values you were born with, I am sorry.... But do feel free to comment....
And ya all those guys who thought that this started really well and could have turned out into something better (if you know what I mean), sorry for the disappointment but you should have guessed better since an Indian is writing it....

haha oh goodness, birds and flowers making out. what an interesting way to depict sex =/ in my history class now we're learning about the enlightenment in europe, and i guess that's when europe sort of started putting sex out in the open more. it makes you wonder what was going on with that sort of thing in other countries.
Yup, the birds and the bees used to depict what gives us pride of place as the second most populous country in the world. I recently noticed a few 'safe sex' posters outside the health centre of Mumbai University's academic campus. It made me smirk. So finally they have accepted it. Otherwise they's say that MU students were they ideal Brahmacharis and the creatures that had sex on the campus were the stray dogs!
And thanks for blogrolling me. I have reciprocated.
okay so we do it and we do like it.. but how does showing it in a movie in more spicy and open way will make a difference? I am not offended but I am still not getting the idea.. how will that help? movies are public medium where all kind of people go for just one purpose.. entertainment.. and I dont think its bad to take care of every one's sentiments.. If a person with family gets embarrassed that is not wrong.. even you and me will be in same position.. no ?
I don't think its bad or funny, at least till they decide to introduce categories like x, xx, xxx here.. what say ?
Flightpretendment: Well i think there is still time when we start putting up sex in the open
Julia Scissor: thanks for coming back and adding me to your blogroll. I certainly hope more and more people become open about such things without making it a moral issue.
Scattered thoughts: Great to have you back and please keep doing it if I get your juices running. What i really wanted to put forward was that we people still do not openly accept the idea of sex. I agree that if a person gets embarrassed its not wrong I just feel as to why they get embarrased. I agree I would be embarrassed in the position but I would be happier if I was not and it was just sex rather than being SEX. We still make a big issue out of such things in India.
As for the movie showing scenes openly goes i think somewhere down thw line it represents how open minded we are. As far as the thing of rating goes I would only say even if movies like The Reader were given a rating of A and passed uncenssorred how many of us would really go with our girlfriends or wives, watch it for what it is.... But this post is not really about our movies, its just that I think sex in India is still a big issue and that is all i want to point out... wow I wrote a whole post here.. its great to have a healthy exchange of POVs i think we are here for that purpose only.. I respect your opinion...
I do agree with mukund...and yes mukund,i really like the way you end your posts...especially this one here...keep writing... waiting for the second one in the installment...
