The Political Downturn.........

To vote or not to vote, that my dear friends is the question............

Me: What's your plan for tomorrow??
My friend: I am planning to go and vote.
Me: What?? Really?? Why??
My friend: Because we should all vote. It is our right. You should do it too.
Me: Nahhhh... You go ahead. I will enjoy my holiday. What's the use anyways??
My friend: Well you go there and tell them that you don't want to vote for anyone. That way your vote cannot be misused.
Me: Really?? It still does not make a difference buddy. I do not want to vote for any existing candidate. Even if I go and tell them that I don't want to vote for anyone, who cares. Then if I vote for a person and that person wins because of my one vote, who cares really. To me it does not make a difference, cause it does not change my life one bit.

So, here is the problem......

You are a socially responsible person, you are way past the age limit of voting, you know you should start exercising your right to vote but...............

Every time there are elections you don't go to vote, you feel really bad about it but still you didn't vote in the previous elections and still you don't feel like doing it this time......

You would love to go out there to the polling booth and vote, really you would but if and only if there was a single party which actually led by example and if there was a single politician who made a difference to India and the people who live here. As of now our political system is going through a big break down with the political parties trying to gather awareness and votes through television ads, short films and even songs written on them, may be they have just accepted the fact that their actions don't speak loud enough or may be there have been no actions what so ever to talk about. It is something like watching a really awesome, thrilling, glorified trailer of a really bogus movie........

I hope the few good men left in the political scenario are put up at the right places in our political system.....

For now our political system is weak and the politicians are just too human. I say too human because they are still very selfish and to be a leader of a great country like India they need to have a bit of a streak of selflessness, they need to have a greater vision and more importantly they need to take actions....

In the end I would only like to say this.....

Some where down the line, right at the bottom, this is all our fault............. If we had reacted a little earlier, if we were more aware then, if we had stopped these "good for nothing" politicians before they contaminated the whole system, may be this problem would have ceased to exist.....

May be even our future generations will think the same about us...

I never felt bad the way you pointed out, coz I vote.
I would like to put on a question through your post, (which is responsibly Nice),
Would you Love to leave Your Mother with Your Irresponsible Neighbor, who always looks for a chance to cheat upon you? Then you choose amongst Best Choice! Then why not now... if you can Select back then? Why not Elect Now!!!

you should vote for yourself, haha. in the US, about 50 people vote for mickey mouse every year (or so the statistics say). hmm... i wonder if you know who mickey mouse is. do they have him in india? well if not, he is a cartoon character

this post has got me thinking. is it better to vote for a selfish person or not to vote at all? i think you should still vote, at least figure out who is the "lesser evil" out of the bunch. because if you dont vote at all, you might end up having the worst of the evils as your president =/

Somnath: first welcome to the blog... happy to have you here...
I agree with what you said. Its just that when I look around I see all of them at the same level. But still I would love to go and vote, just for the love of my country.

Flight: Well, we definitely know mickey mouse. We are very aware of things around the world. Its just that when it comes to our country we just start avoiding things. But I have come to realize that more and more people are aware and educated now. Good for us and this country. I hope I do make up my mind and decide to vote. I am actually researching if I can go to the polling booth and tell them I don't thing anyone is good enough, may be register something like that. Will keep everyone informed...

Your vote represent your voice, your confidence and your aspiration for your future. Just elect the candidate whom you see is able to represent you. Their achievements in the future represent you and can only be measured by your strength and your support because success is always a team work. If after a term in office, they failed you, kick them off and you elect someone else.

Who knows, maybe one day, the children or the grandchildren of the person you voted today will be voting for "the leader-in- you" in the future when you run for the seat of India's PM.

Food for thought; There are people from several countries; in Myanmar for example, human beings are being tortured, killed and denied their rights to speak up or vote. Voting system doesn't even exist in some countries!

I would say, enjoy the privilege to vote and make full use of the freedom of choice that is being given to your by your goverment.

one vote might not matter in a victory? if a thousand people thought the same, which is likely to happen with our generation, probably the wrong person would be the leader. and then we'd have to get more shoes ready.
instead we could go choose our candidate.

well written Mukund. I think both of us write about India, you from the inside and me from the outside. I'm definitely a regular reader from now on!

keep it going well!
