What the Future Holds...

Well we had a blogger's meet at Delhi today... It was great fun and I had a a blast... but more on that in the next post. As for today here goes...

“When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let
it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.”

Today morning I came across on a very interesting post on the blog My Perspective. Now, this was my first visit to this blog and I came across something really interesting. The latest post was about a very interesting topic called Managing Tomorrow and like many other things in life this weird question started a debate in my brains. Let me warn you that when this happens things becomes very complicated and I start asking questions and answering them on my own. But its really very interesting....

So, the question was if anyone can manage tomorrow or not. The author said that we cannot. We can try and have a good present and hope for a better tomorrow. I have to say somewhere in my mind or heart I agree with him.

Yes, we don't have control on the future but still we plan for them. Then it occurred to me that planning is the first step of management (according to a text book of mine). Now, really not many of us live in the moment and thus we think about what has happened and plan for what has to happen. Thus, this would also really mean that we can manage our future.
But how could this be the end of the thought process :)

Today while talking to Kaddu at the meet, she told me something really great. She told me that
"Life is something that happens while we are busy making some other
plans."

Heavy? actually not very. I almost agree with this, considering my own life.

This made me think that if we cannot make a plan for life then who so ever says that they don't live in the moment don't know the fact that no matter what they do, they do in fact live in, on, by and for the moment cause nothing and anything they do can help them know what the future holds for them. After pondering about it again and again, I think.....

May be the fact is that we can manage the future but cannot control it? Is there a difference between controlling the future and managing it.... I don't really know. If you manage something can you control it as well.
May be I will keep this topic for another debate.... What say you?????

hmmm...slightly unsure about the 'managing and controlling' debate. we can attempt, or even hope, to control that which is uncertain, but really being able to claim that we absolutely can seems to be a difficult thing :)

Ummm... I think managing would be a more appropriate word to use when it comes to talking abt our future.

Controlling sounds so very definite, like u hv everything under ur little finger... but we can't really "control" our future, can we!

Whereas, if u use "manage"... it includes planning for what u want to happen, as well as improvising on the spot if things don't go according to plans!

For instance, we planned the rough outline of our meet yesterday, and left the details and the final outcome to chance, open to "manage" situations as and when they arose...

Just my 2 cents... off to hv tea now! :D

Hmmm..reminds me of the saying, man proposes, God disposes.
Frankly as much as I like making plans, I have become apprehensive about making them. Coz there has hardly been an instance when anything in my life has ever gone according to plan. Be it studying, or traveling or anything else. Hence as much as I am tempted to get a notepad and jot down my plans for today/the week I tend to avoid it as they seldom seem to work out.....

"What say you??!!" -- reminded me of the scene when Aragon shouted at the undead. lol, can't help it.

We could try to plan/do whatever possible to work our ways through the process, but certainly nobody will know whether it'll work out the way we wanted. Just like playing soccer, you're controlling the ball. No matter how good you are, nobody can really predict whether the player will score or not as there'll be 'obstacles' (= challenges) that try to stop him. ^^ Just my little thoughts.
